Telemedicine Q&A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a way to see Dr. Shah at Samwell Institute for Pain Management without going in for a traditional face-to-face office visit. Instead, telemedicine uses a variety of technologies and advances in digital health care to provide you with high-quality medical care in the comfort of your home.

With telemedicine, you can use a device, such as a cellphone or home computer, to schedule a virtual visit with your provider. The visit might be conducted via a telephone call, video chat, telemedicine app, or through a combination of these or other methods. Your telemedicine visit is safe, secure, and protects your personal medical information and privacy.

What happens during a telemedicine visit?

Telemedicine includes many of the same elements of a typical office visit. During your telemedicine visit, Dr. Shah asks you questions about how you’re feeling, provides treatment advice and writes you a prescription, if needed. In a video visit, you can even show him your symptoms, such as redness or swelling.

What are the advantages of telemedicine?

Telemedicine is a time saver. It's easy to schedule and saves you the hassle of traveling to an in-person appointment.

Telemedicine safeguards your health by eliminating the likelihood of being exposed to someone who is sick when you're at the doctor's office. Visiting with Dr. Shah virtually gives you the peace of mind of knowing you won’t catch an illness or virus.

With telemedicine, you also don’t have to worry about missing time away from work or family. However, if you need more advanced care, Dr. Shah will certainly suggest that you come in for an office visit.

What does telemedicine diagnose or treat?

Telemedicine is an ideal option for minor health problems and to monitor chronic conditions. Dr. Shah may suggest scheduling a telemedicine visit for one of the following health issues:

  • Arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Shoulder pain
  • Knee pain
  • Headache
  • Hip pain
  • Lower back pain
  • Abdominal pain
  • Osteoarthritis

This is by no means an exhaustive list. If you’d like to take advantage of telemedicine instead of coming in for a visit, contact Dr. Shah. Call or book your telemedicine visit online today.
